Community Mentor Coordinator (Gloucester)

Job Role

Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire (BGSW) Probation Services is a division of Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company (KSS CRC). We provide a broad range of probation services for those on community orders or licenses. KSS CRC, part of the Seetec Group, has probation divisions in Wales; Dorset, Devon and Cornwall; Kent, Surrey and Sussex; Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The post requires the post holder to recruit, supervise, support and train volunteers from the community.  These volunteers will provide a range of services including mentoring, advocacy, advice and practical help in addressing identified needs to service users under the supervision of the Community Rehabilitation Companies and National Probation Service.


The post also involves developing partnerships that bring organisations and individuals together to support the integration of offenders into communities to reduce offending.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support development opportunities for mentors ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to fulfill the role of mentoring
  • Provide mentor supervision; challenge and contribute to risk management ensuring mentors are fully aware of, and understand, the risks inherent in working with the complex needs of others.
  • Provide administration for the Volunteer Unit, ensuring that all relevant documentation is prepared in advance and that information is accurate and up to date
  • Maintain and input volunteer mentor’s data in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate data and prepare statistics to ensure all aspects of delivery are fully documented and up to date
  • Source and attend job fares across the CRC promoting the role of volunteer mentor
  • Collate and produce quarterly Volunteer Unit newsletter.
  • To develop pro-active working relationships and liaison with all CRC and NPS staff.
  • Recruit and train new Volunteer Mentors in the application of their role including shortlisting and interviewing
  • Work with Volunteer Unit Manager to assess risk including high risk NPS cases.
  • Monitor lone working to ensure volunteers are adhering to safe working and maintaining boundaries.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders by relevant methods to enable effective service delivery.
  • Be accountable for the monitoring and inputting of volunteers’ expenses and invoices in a timely fashion, ensuring correct finance procedures are followed.
  • Attend Meetings and take minutes as required
Skills and Experience
  • Experience of contributing to the assessment and management of risk
  • Experience of developing and maintaining administrative systems
  • Experience of providing procedural advice to managers
  • Experience of working with Mentors, Service Users or vulnerable people
  • Experience of training or coaching in groups or one to one
  • Experience in database management
  • Understanding of group work delivery and presentation skills
  • Hold or be prepared to undertake Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Sector (PTLLS) training qualification or equivalent

Additional Information

Salary: £22,924 - £28,200 per annum
Location: Gloucester
Hours: Full time - 37 hours per week
Closing Date: 31st May 2020
