Communications Officer (Flexible Location)

Job Role

Join our team as a Communications Officer to support in the delivery of Seetec's external communications strategy by promoting our value proposition, our services and success stories, and our public policy positions.

Supporting the Head of Public Policy and Communications, the Communications Officer will help deliver the Group’s press and PR strategy. Supporting the Head of Public Policy and Communications, our successful candidate will help deliver the wider Group’s stakeholder outreach and media relations plan for Ireland.

This role involves day to day engagement with journalists, drafting press releases and quotes, responding to media queries and tracking media coverage – all with the aim of promote Seetec’s commercial and societal priorities. As we are an employee-owned business, you will also play a key part in articulating the role we play in changing lives, as we believe everyone should be able to take ownership and responsibility over their future.

Key Responsibilities

•Builds a good understanding of the opportunities, challenges and priorities for the Group and establishes a network of contacts across the organisation to ensure information and knowledge are kept up to date. 

•Supports the Head of Public Policy and Communications to operationalise the Group stakeholder outreach and media relations plan: 
• Researching news angles and story leads to tell the Group story and communicate our services, successes and public policy positions.
• Drafting press releases and quotes for the media. 
• Monitoring  social media to identify opportunities for the business to comment and place stories. 
• Pitching stories and campaign themes to journalists. 
• Drafting briefing notes and Q&As for media and political outreach. 
• Managing day-to-day thought-leadership campaign activity. 

•Acts as a key point of contact for the Seetec colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach and consistency of message.   
•Builds and fosters relationships with journalists, including influencers and bloggers. 
•Manages inbound media calls and emails; logging calls, coordinating responses with the Business Units and key functions and escalating issues when needed. 
•Researches and fact-checks responses related to media enquiries; liaising with subject matter experts and drafting key messages, statements and Q&As for approval and sign off. 
•Tracks a range of performance indicators that will enable Seetec to monitor and evaluate the impact of our communications activities. 
•Liaising with Seetec’s PR agencies as necessary.
•Creates and maintains a media contacts database.

Skills and Experience

•At least 2 years’ relevant communications experience working in either a corporate in-house role, PR agency, Government department communications team or as a journalist.
•Experience of working on a campaign aimed at securing national press coverage.
•Existing network of national and regional media contacts. 
•Experience in working with external PR agencies and media monitoring agencies.
•Experience in evaluating the impact of PR activities.

•A degree in public relations, media or marketing is desirable. 
•Professional memberships and qualifications achieved through accredited PR, media and marketing courses.
•Sector-specific media contacts working in any of following fields would be an advantage: employability, higher education, justice, aviation, transport & logistics and public services.
•Region-specific media contacts working in any of the following regions: North West, South West, East of England and Yorkshire.
•Experience of digital campaigns or using social media in professional context.

Additional Information

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Location: Flexible location, with occasional visits to Hockley Head Office when required

Hours: 37 hrs per week -  Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 5.00 pm and Friday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm
