Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (Flexible Location)

Digital and Technology Services is focused on ensuring current and future investment in technology to maximise the opportunities to support Seetec from a technological perspective. Bringing a new focus to understanding and supporting the business functions will be key in exploiting technology to deliver positive business outcomes.  Service Management is a vital element ensuring (DTS) Services are delivered to provide continuity of operation to agreed levels of service in support of business operations.


We are currently recruiting a Database Administrator to be responsible, for completing the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of databases.  You will provide support for operational databases in production and for internal or interim purposes such as iterative developments and testing. In addition, you will support the development of improved security and performance of databases together with the tools and processes for database administration (including automation).

 

Our successful candidate will have Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) or equivalent qualification and have a qualification or high level of demonstrable capability with relevant vendor business applications and also have Expert level Certification to a database management and development qualification such as Microsoft SQL Server.

We need your analytical and problem-solving skills and your experience of managing small teams to successfully deliver critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

•Ensure the effective delivery of databases critical to applications delivery in support of business operations and the continued development of a high performing team.
•Install, configure, upgrade, administration/monitoring and maintenance of databases to ensure optimisation of functionality and enable the secure, efficient operation of applications.
•Provide the ongoing day to day support of databases to maintain security, continuity and efficient delivery to support business operations and ensure the efficient delivery and continuity of business operations to meet agreed service levels and application performance requirements.
•Review and analyse database performance to identify areas for improvement and prevent service degradation that would have an adverse impact on business operations.
•Design and implement processes and toolsets to ensure optimise the performance of varying applications and deliver greater efficiency in day to day maintenance and support activities.
•Use database management system software and tools, and detailed technical knowledge of logical database schemata, to conduct the investigation of problems and collect performance statistics to create reports recommending corrective action

Skills and Experience

ESSENTIAL
•Educated to A Level or equivalent by experience
•Experience of managing small teams successfully delivering critical business applications
•Hold Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) or equivalent qualification
•Qualification or high level of demonstrable capability with relevant vendor business applications
•Expert level Certification to a database management and development qualification such as Microsoft SQL Server 
•Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of, and capability to work within, relevant ICT related standards including HMG Security Policy Framework, IITIL V3, ISO/IEC38500, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 22301, ISO/IEC 20000, PRINCE2 and MSP
•Evidence of continual professional development to keep pace with technical and business change that meet defined SFIA V7 competencies.


DESIRABLE
•Experience of working within a large public-sector organisation (Council / Local Authority / NHS / University etc.) delivering hosted services to stakeholders

Additional Information

Salary: £33,275 - £40,000 pa (dependent on experience)
Location: Flexible Location, with occasional travel to Hockley Head Office when required
Hours: 8.30am - 5.00pm Monday- Thursday 8.30 am - 4.30pm Friday (Full Time)
